Herzog is over the top with the title. The cellist's performance made me weep.

Winter Sun

Eero J√§rnefelt
/words by Morrison

While in this state of weary anticipation
she noticed that she was not breathing, that her heart had stopped completely
A crease of fear touched her breast
there was sure to be a violent explosion in her brain
Then she realized there was not going to be any pain
She was not breathing because she didn't have to
Her body did not need oxygen
She was dead
"Well, I'll be damned,
it didn't even hurt.
Wait'll I tell Nel."

Hi Julian,

Thanks for considering those stories.
Here's a question I can't seem to find an answer to seeing as you seem to take such an eclectic mix for the podcast...but is there a genre you like to avoid, or that you prefer?
I write in many and even cross a few, with a heavy concentration of lots of my credits being in erotica.
Just wondering.

Thanks for your inquiry. Honestly I'm still trying to figure it out myself. I'm hesitant to name any particular genre that I prefer. UMEtP is supposed to be a home for compelling fiction that doesn't have a place somewhere else. There are so many publications out there that front load the submissions process with rules and restrictions and strong language about what is "preferable." I don't want to be that. Getting emotionally fucked up is the highest goal of the show because that's where life happens--in emotions. I don't know about you, but I'm not even sure I'm alive unless I'm feeling something. In that sense, even terror is welcome. Life is all that matters, ya know?

So to answer your question: I dunno.
